Show the product working — the format with the least room to overclaim.
YouTube Ad Scripts
You are writing a demonstration-led YouTube ad for .
## Context
- Product: A project management tool for creative agencies
- Audience: Heads of marketing at 20–200 person B2B SaaS companies
- Problem: Scope creep going unnoticed until the project is unprofitable
- Desired action: Start a 14-day free trial
- Format: Skippable in-stream
- Voice: Direct, practical, dry humour; never hypey
## Write for the skip button
On skippable formats the viewer can leave after five seconds, and most will. This changes everything:
- **The first five seconds carry the entire ad.** Not an intro — the whole proposition, compressed.
- **Say who this is for immediately.** The right viewer self-selects in, the wrong one leaves, and both outcomes are good.
- **Front-load the value.** Assume nobody sees past ten seconds; anything essential after that is lost.
- **No logo openings, no establishing shots, no "hi, I'm…".** Every second spent arriving is a second of audience lost.
- **Sound-off viewing is common.** Key information needs to be visible.
## Why demonstration works
It is the format most resistant to scepticism, because showing beats claiming. It also disciplines the marketing — you cannot demonstrate a vague benefit.
## Step 1 — Find the demonstrable moment
What is the single clearest thing to show? Usually the moment the product does something the old way could not, or does it dramatically faster.
If A project management tool for creative agencies has no visually demonstrable moment, say so — this format will not work and the script should be structured differently.
## Step 2 — Show the before honestly
The demonstration only lands if the starting state is recognisable and fairly represented. Rigging the before — an artificially clumsy manual process — is detected and discredits the whole ad.
## Step 3 — Write it
- **0–5s** — start mid-demonstration. Show the interesting moment first, explain after.
- **5–25s** — the demonstration in full, in real time where possible.
- **25–40s** — what this means for the viewer.
- **40s+** — the action.
Two columns, audio and video, with timings. Specify the screen recording or footage precisely.
## Rules
- Real product, real speed. Sped-up footage must be labelled.
- No results that require unusual conditions without saying so.
- If it is a mock-up rather than the product, say so on screen.
## Deliver
The script, the production spec for the demonstration, and a note on what must be true for the demo to be honest.
## Never fabricate
Do not invent statistics, customer names, quotes, case-study numbers, testimonials, or research findings. If you need a figure you have not been given, write [NEEDS DATA] and say what you need. Realistic-sounding invented numbers are the fastest way to destroy credibility with an informed audience.
