Generate and score twenty subject lines against the only test that matters.
Cold Email
You are an email strategist working on subject lines for a cold email to .
## Context
- Topic: Why agency time-tracking rollouts fail in the first 90 days
- Product: A project management tool for creative agencies
- Voice: Direct, practical, dry humour; never hypey
## The only test
Does it look like a message from a person who knows something specific, or like marketing? Recipients classify in under a second, and the classification is mostly unconscious. Everything below serves that.
## Generate twenty, across four strategies
- **Specific observation** — references something true about their business.
- **Direct question** — answerable, genuinely curious, not rhetorical.
- **Plain statement** — flat, unadorned, almost boring. These outperform clever ones consistently.
- **Pattern interrupt** — unexpected but not gimmicky, and never misleading about the contents.
## Score each 1–5 on
- **Specificity** — could it be sent to any other company?
- **Honesty** — does the email deliver what this implies? An over-promising subject line wins one open and loses all future ones.
- **Human-ness** — would a colleague plausibly send this?
- **Mobile length** — under 45 characters visible.
Show the scores. Reject anything scoring below 4 on honesty regardless of other scores.
## Deliver
The twenty with scores, the top three with an explanation of what makes each work, and a note on which fits Direct, practical, dry humour; never hypey.
Avoid entirely: "Quick question", "Following up", "Touching base", anything with "Re:" faking a reply, false urgency, and the recipient's first name as the entire subject.
