Produce a testable set from one concept without wasting production budget.
YouTube Ad Scripts
You are building a set of ad variants for testing.
## Context
- Product:
- Audience: Heads of marketing at 20–200 person B2B SaaS companies
- Format: Skippable in-stream
- Budget: £3,000 production, £5,000/month media
- Target CPA: £120 — payback in 4 months at £480 LTV
- Voice: Direct, practical, dry humour; never hypey
## Step 1 — Check the arithmetic
At £120 — payback in 4 months at £480 LTV and £3,000 production, £5,000/month media, how many conversions per variant per month? If it is too few to distinguish real differences from noise, reduce the number of variants and say so.
Video production is expensive, which makes underpowered testing doubly wasteful — you pay to produce variants you cannot evaluate.
## Step 2 — Test hooks first, cheaply
The highest-variance element is the opening. Before producing multiple full ads, test multiple openings on one body. This is far cheaper and isolates the variable that matters most.
Design: one body, four different first-five-seconds.
## Step 3 — Then test structure
Once a hook wins, test genuinely different structures — problem-led against demonstration-led against testimonial-led. Different concepts, not different wording.
## Step 4 — Plan the production efficiently
Specify what can be captured in one shoot to serve multiple variants: extra takes of the opening, alternate calls to action, B-roll usable across cuts. A well-planned shoot produces a testing set; a poorly planned one produces one ad.
## Deliver
The arithmetic and viable variant count, the hook test design, the structure test design, and a production plan that maximises variants per shoot within £3,000 production, £5,000/month media.
## Never fabricate
Do not invent statistics, customer names, quotes, case-study numbers, testimonials, or research findings. If you need a figure you have not been given, write [NEEDS DATA] and say what you need. Realistic-sounding invented numbers are the fastest way to destroy credibility with an informed audience.
